Default Favorite Book / What are you reading ?

I'm just wondering what people are reading here! Maybe give me some ideas on which book to open next

I got Great Expectation (Charles Dickens) to begin reading and for any reason, I delay it (finished David Copperfield few months ago and took forever to read)...

Usually I love suspense/horror (Dean Koontz is my favorite author); I read all the Jack Ryan collection of Tom Clancy; of course I read quite a few time Lord Of The Rings... and many more (the list is pretty long.. i am a reading addict for almost 16 years now)

So what are you up to now ?

I just finished reading the original War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells this summer before watching the movie so I could compare the two. Obviously, they were very different considering the book took place 100 years earlier. But still, a very good book, creepy at times.

Right now, I have to read The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury for my summer reading assignment. I heard its a good book but haven't gotten around to starting yet.

I just finished Faulkner's As I Lay Dying and am now reading three books, depending on my mood:

The Way the Crow Flies by Ann-Marie MacDonald (about a 60's Canadian Air Force family and the murder of a little girl off the base)

Benjamin Franklin by Walter Isaacs (guess you know what that's about )

Blood of the Prophets: Brigham Young & the Massacre at Mountain Meadows by Will Bagley (about a very obscure and bizarre incident in Mormon history where an entire wagon train of emmigrants to California was murdered in southern Utah)

3? I always keep only 1 book started. I prefer giving my full attention to that book. I made an exception in one book only, I was reading the memoire of Winston Churchill on the WWII, it's so ... heavy !! I never finished though, I'm still 2/3 of the first book only (there are 3 books).. and it's the only book I didn't finish

Favourite book? Hmm... Thats a tie between The Catcher In The Rye and The Resturant At The End Of The Universe. I also LOVED The Talisman. Right now I'm rereading some Kurt Vonnigutt to fry my brain (You need to pay 100% attention to understand Kurt sometimes hehe).

Stephen King's Talisman ? did you read the sequel Territory or something like that ? It was written something like 20 years later

Have you ever read Weaveworld from Clive Barker ? I love that book!

I have no favorites because I love almost all I read.

I just finished "Paladin of Souls" by Lois McMaster Bujold. Having been hooked on her Miles Vorkosigan series, I thought I'd give her Chalion series a go, and could not be happier.

I am about to start re-reading the George R.R. Martin Game of Thrones series in preparation for the release of A Feast of Crows.

Were it not for that release, I'd be re-reading the last in the line of the Honor Harrington series by David Weber in preparation for his next release this Christmas...

or I'd find (at long last) Robin Hobb's Ships series. I've already read the Farseer books so I owe myself this one and haven't ever found all three together so I never bought them. A friend told me I was missing out so I must break down eventually and actually order 'em.

Hope that helps.

I love the Hitchhikers trilogy! My favorite still has to be LotR though. Right now I am reading Insomnia by Stephen King.

I have to agree with that. I find it hard to name a favorite book, because I like pretty much all I read.

I just recently finished Eragon. If you enjoy Fantasy books, then you'll love it. I personally thought it was an absolutely enthralling book. I couldn't put it down and wound up finishing it four days after I bought it.

yet another "i have no favorite" i seem to find good authors then soak up every book i can they've written and get stuck waiting for new books to come out.... i love james patterson (not his co-authored books with andrew cross) johnathon kellerman, john sanford, jeffery deaver(wrote bone collector), dennis lehane(wrote mystic river) those are all detective type novels...
i reccomend any of the dragonlance series.... if you start from the beginning you have plenty of stuff to read all summer.... i'm currently reading a side series not written by wies or hickman.. lioness by nancy varian berberick

umm i'm also a big fan of ed greenwood.. waiting for the next one of his to come out.. and waiting on my copy of ressurection :war of the spider queen (the latest in the series

ok ad thas cutin it short....
oh and terry goodkind i love him too

Ohh Alexandre Dumas (Dumbass as they say in Shawshank redemption), I love him. Do you plan on reading all the trilogy of Musketeers, something like 20 years later and The man in the iron mask (I don't know the exact title, I read them in French).

Favorite series was The Dark Tower set of 7 books by Stephen King
Current single favorite was Battle Royale about a class of 42 15-yr olds from "Greater Asian Republic" that have their bus hijacked by their government while on a class study trip, stranded on a deserted island, and forced to kill each other until only 1 is left alive....that person is given a life time salary and a signed card from their dictator... :-/
The book is referred to as a modern day Lord of the Flies and spawned a cult-like following in Japan. Very good book... 600+ pages that I read from start to finish in less than a day. I want to see the movie for it but it is very very hard to find.

Queen of Demons, by David Drake. If your looking for some good fantasy that dosen't clone every other fantasy title out there, then check out the Lord of the Isles series.

I loved The Book of Flying by Keith Miller when I read it not long ago, I've tracked down a copy as they're now hard to find and have ordered it in.

I also love the Witches of Eileanan series by Kate Forsyth. As well as Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen by Garth Nix.

There's so many more too. I love books!

I, like the original poster, am mad on Dean Koonts. I'm currently reading a book by him that I seem to have missed, it's called The Watchers.

As for favourite book, don't even ask. I'm with the "there's too many great ones to choose from" crowd.
